On September 7, 2023, a meeting was held to establish a Consultative Council for Lake Atanasovsko. Pursuant to Art. 6 para. 1 of the Atanasovsko Lake Maintained Reserve Management Plan and Art. 46, para. 1 of the Law on Protected Areas, the director of the RIEW created a Consultative Council to discuss the main problems related to the management and protection of the reserve.
Members of the council are RIEW Burgas, Burgas Municipality, Regional Administration, Black Sea Salinas AD, Basin Directorate, RZI, BBF, BSPB, Zaedno 2011, BAS, University "Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov", Specialized Rehabilitation Hospital "Burgas Mineral Baths".
The council begins intensive work to solve the current problems related to the maintenance of the technical infrastructure necessary for the operation of the lake - watering the dry basins in the northern part, removing the waters from the freshwater channel in the southern part and others.
Unlike the Public Consultative Council, which the BBF created 10 years ago and which meets once a year, the decisions of this one will be binding and will engage the participants with more specific commitments.
The Rules of Procedure of the Council were adopted, all current issues were discussed and a decision was made to prepare a proposal for funding maintenance activities in the lake to ensure its long-term conservation. The next meeting of the Consultative Council will be in October.
