At the beginning of the summer, the film about Atanasovsko Lake - SALTY PEOPLE will be broadcast in Ruse, presenting the lake through the eyes of four conservationists who share the challenges they face in its preservation - a remarkable place that is both a maintained reserve and a protected area, a wetland of international importance, Natura 2000 zone, the richest place of birds, sea salt and healing mud in Bulgaria.
"There is no other natural territory that celebrates a name day, a birthday, has a special festival, fair, exhibitions, art plein airs and residencies, nature protection camps, etc. Because there is no other place like it - both a part of a big city like Burgas and an almost wild territory inhabited by hundreds of species. In its more than 100-year history, the lake has faced various challenges, but it has always survived. To present it we created a special film "Salty People", says Radostina Tzenova from the Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation, which will be screened at the Regional Library in Ruse.
For more than a year now, the BBF team has been travelling around the country and presenting the film in various places, but the most interesting are the discussions with the people who share their challenges related to nature protection. The meeting with the audience in Ruse and the interesting discussion after the screening about the environmental challenges in Bulgaria, the hot environmental protection topics at the moment and the crises that are looming are eagerly awaited. In the lobby in front of the Meeting Hall, there will be a bazaar with a cause and an opportunity to get acquainted with the products from the lake presented in the film - natural salt "Flower de Sel", green salt, chocolate with sea salt, Pelican soap, Flamingo candle, etc. The entrance to the film is with a ticket for a cause - BGN 10 in support of Lake Atanasovsko!
The film "Salty People" was shot in August 2022 in Atanasovsko Lake and its presentation in Ruse will be on June 20, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. in the meeting hall of the "Lyuben Karavelov" Regional Library - Ruse. The director and screenwriter is Alexandra Val, the cinematographer is Georgi Chelebiev, and the music and vocals are by Mila Robert and Yavor Karagitliev.
The film already has two international awards:
• International Short Cinema Festival, 2024 (Bolivia), winner in the category Best Short Film 20-40 minutes.
• Best International Film Festival, 2023 (Romania), winner in the Best Environmental Film category.
The animated clip for the song "We are salty creatures", with music by Mila Robert and Yavor Karagitliev and lyrics by Mariana Sarbova, which is the main musical background of the movie "Salty People", will be pre-premiered. The author of the animation is Arch. Mariana Sarbova, uses the images of the sea, time, man, fish, birds and their mutual connection with the means of stop-motion animation. The premiere of the clip will be in July in Burgas with the participation of Mila Robert.
